David Kaufman

David Kaufman

Grew up in Kansas City, and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He became an Illinois licensed interior designer in 1989. After working as Senior Designer/Project Manager with the late designer Paul Granata at his interior design firm in Chicago, Kaufman started his own firm in 1990. He and business partner Tom Segal started their eponymous firm specializing in residential design in 1995. Kaufman has volunteered at the Heartland Alliance Designs for Dignity, Hearts Foundation, Aids Cure, and Open Hand Chicago. He especially loves to create a look that’s eclectic and brings everything together, as opposed to a period-type interior with a single focus.



Tom Segal

Tom Segal

Grew up in a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota, received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, went on to earn a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago, where he studied under well-known architect Stanley Tigerman. His first job was as a residential architect at Frye, Gillan, Molinaro Architects in Chicago where he focused on interiors. He next worked for the late designer Paul Granata. He opened his own firm in 1995 and merged it with David Kaufman’s firm a year later. He has served as past president of the Board of Trustees of Harrington College of Design in Chicago, and continues to serve on that school’s board as secretary. He has also volunteered at the Howard Brown Health Center, Chicago House, Diffa Dining by Design, Open Hand Chicago and Aids Quilt Presentation. He loves clean contemporary furnishings with a few traditional accents or unexpected details.


Kim Brownfield

Kim Brownfield, Business Manager

Kim grew up in Northwest Indiana, and studied at Purdue University, Calumet. She has an extensive background in the design industry, including both high-end residential, corporate and commercial. She specializes in providing business and office management, and is known for being precise and organized. She strives to continue to build the client and vendor relationships that assist in the growth and success of our team.






Stephen Young

Stephen Young, Associate Designer

A Chicago native, Stephen received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture from Miami University in Oxford, OH. While in college he served as the Vice President of the American Institute of Architecture Students Organization & Creative Director of the campus’ Fashion Design Association. Since then Stephen has participated on the Youth Board for Chicago’s Habitat for Humanity & was a part of designing Kaufman Segal’s 2015 Dream Home room. After two years of apprenticing & project managing for interior architect & designer, Doug Nickless, Stephen has since joined Kaufman Segal & gained endless skills that have made him an invaluable component to our team.




Scott Grooms

Scott Grooms, Associate Designer

A native of Charleston, SC, Scott received a BA in Historic Preservation from the College of Charleston and MFA in Interior Environments from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Since graduation, Scott has worked only within high end residential interiors and has furthered his knowledge within the built environment by obtaining certification as a LEED Green Associate. His previous experiences attribute to the design integrity that is synonymous with Kaufman Segal Design.






Lindsay Angyus

Lindsay Angyus, Associate Designer

Grew up in a suburb of Indianapolis, and received her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design from Harrington College of Design in Chicago, IL in 2007. After managing a multi-line showroom at the Merchandise Mart, she worked for Scott Arthur Yerkey Design; receiving a first place award at the IL ASID Design Excellence Awards for her work on the Lake Forest Showcase House in 2013. She has volunteered for Designs for Dignity, and received the D4D Founder’s Award in 2014 for her work on a joint design project with Chicago House.





Melissa Denys

Melissa Denys, Associate Designer

Melissa grew up in Buffalo, NY and received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing degree from Loyola College, MD. She spent 7 years working in wholesale sales for fashion & accessories designers Oscar de la Renta and Christian Louboutin before moving to Chicago and completing the Masters of Interior Design program at Harrington College. She has since worked predominantly in high end residential interiors, and uses her multi-faceted background to bring a fresh eye to the team at KSD.





Kaufman Segal Design currently has active projects in Aspen, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and Miami.
